  • Super reverb making a breaking up noise/static sound

    hello,
i have built a super reverb ab763 amp. on the bench worked great. ready to button it up, put chassis in cabinet. plug it in and the breaks up followed by static. like a thunder strom.
i took it back out, touch up preamp socket solder joints. poked around with amp on and no signs of breakup or static.
put amp chassis back in, fired her up. same dam thing.
lastly changed pre amp tubes, no dice

has anybody experience this before? ideas to what else i can do?
i have enjoyed playing it for the last couple of months, it gave me no clue that this was gon to happen.
    many thanks....

When chassis is out, sight across the top to be sure nothing is sticking up that might touch the top of the cab. The cab probably has screen or foil tape across the inside of the top as shielding. Don't want any components touching that.

        happy ending!
re-solder all pot leads, tighten each pot a quarter turn and re-solder all of v6 lead at socket. i can finally say my super reverb clone is up and running.

I know this is old. I have a 65 BL SR. Will wok for a couple minutes the I get the thunderstorm. Have to rush to switch off. Sometimes I switch back on and its fine. Is this what yours was doing? I pulled the chassis and all seemed okay, I also tried new power tubes but still does it.

            keeney,

try thread #4, maybe a pot loosen up or a bad solder joint? good luck

Could be a loose tube socket pin. Clean and re-tention those contacts.
WARNING! Musical Instrument amplifiers contain lethal voltages and can retain them even when unplugged. Refer service to qualified personnel.
REMEMBER: Everybody knows that smokin' ain't allowed in school !
