  • Can't get 5D8 Twin PI to balance!

    Hi all,

I am trying to build an amp based around the 5D8 power amp section.

    http://bradovka.com/wurlitzer/twin_5d8_schem.gif

I have tried adjusting the divider, adding a coupling cap to the bottom triode's cathode, using different plate resistors, all to no avail.

Anode 1 puts out some 65V peak onto the power tube grids before clipping, anode 2 manages just 45-50V.

Does the design mean that they are never going to balance? Clipping is very asymmetrical at present.

Do you have the 270K as the grid leak on the bottom 6L6?
WARNING! Musical Instrument amplifiers contain lethal voltages and can retain them even when unplugged. Refer service to qualified personnel.
