  • Weber 6A20 - AB763 Deluxe Reverb build - completed.

Hello, as the title says I just finished a "Blackface" build. It works very well - so far - and I've spent quite a bit of time on it. But there's a tiny bit of harshness on the note attack. It happens on both channels. I hear this same sort of sound on other Deluxe Reverbs, but mine seems a little "crispier", more brittle. Almost like faint static right inside the attack of the note. I will provide any specs, measurements, or audio samples you ask for.

I've got new 12AT7s arriving tomorrow, so I'll try those first.

But if you guys want to spitball some ideas, I'm all ears.

Are you using the Bright switches ? Real Deluxe Reverbs don't have bright switches.
WARNING! Musical Instrument amplifiers contain lethal voltages and can retain them even when unplugged. Refer service to qualified personnel.
REMEMBER: Everybody knows that smokin' ain't allowed in school !

Is the feedback loop definitely negative?
A easy way to know for certain is to open the loop and check whether gain increases or decreases.
In Fender reverb channels, as signal level rises, the reverb driver stage grid is usually the next to clip after the power tube grids, and its clipping character is unpleasant.
How is your issue affected is the amp is operated without a tube in V3?

        I've tried it both ways.

I have not tried it without a tube in V3.

Thanks guys for chiming in. I have another thread with pics and clips and some specs if you don't mind going there, please. I was having trouble with my account and didn't mean to make a bunch of duplicate threads. The thread linked below is the main one. VVVVVVVVV

Did you try several different guitars (and guitar cables)?
Building a better world (one tube amp at a time)
