  • Are some of these voltages a little high?

    240v mains in
    5Y3GT pin 8 387v is this a bit on the high side?
    Maybe use zener to lower B+

    EH6V6 GT's...
    Plates are both 377V, grid is 340V & cathode is 21V

    V2 12AX7
    1=159 V
    3=1.3 V
    6=202V
    8=46V

    V1 EH 12AY7
    1=126V
    3=1.90V
    6=127V

    Seems to be playing ok, volume faded at one point but ok since??

    any recommendations/advice

    Many thanks
    chris

    Well I added a 15v Zener to the B+ and got the voltages down by 7-8volts.
    so i guess I answered my own question.....

      If you have a sovtek 5Y3 in there, that will not drop as much voltage as an original 5Y3. That could account for the extra voltage. Plus, if you have an old schemo with old voltage readings, you should also consider the fact that wall voltage is about 117 volts as opposed to 110 in the old days. That makes for higher voltages in the amp.

      I don't think those voltages will hurt anything, though. You'll just have more headroom. Just make sure you aren't exceeding 25v on the cathode bypass cap on your power tubes (cause that cap is usually a 25-25).
      In the future I invented time travel.

        Thanks for that... but in the UK its 240v or there abouts...
        Actually I sem to have a bit of a problem somewhere...so i'll start a new thread
        Many thanks...
