I used Hammond transformers. Pt is a 290AX and the OT is a 1750E. I get them from Antique Electronic Supply. I know that lots of people swear by the more expensive transformers for added tone but I think these ones are a great value for the money. Both transformers were under $100. I have used Hammond transformers on 3 amps and I think they are fine.

        Hiya Alby

That chassis is real pretty - is that letraset? (and Aluminium? - how'd you finish it like that?)

Thanks for the kind words Tubeswell. The chassis is lettered using Letraset on an aluminum chassis. After the lettering I put on a few coats of a clear matt finish poly something or other product. It's too bad as when I first peel back the plastic from the aluminum it looks really nice, almost like chrome. Building the chassis is the hardest part of the whole thing, if you make a mistake it would be pretty hard to hide it. Rubbing all of those letters and numbers on is a real nerve racking job.

I have lots of Letraset in black, I can send you a few sheets if you want to try some out.

          Alby.

            Hammond Tranny

Cool info on the Hammond Transformers.
I have repaired a Deluxe that was built with the 290AX, and during subsequent testing I will say that the amp sounded killer with that configuration.

I have recently built three Deluxes with the Mercury Magnetics transformers, and will also say that the FTDP transformer is no good with its stock (380-0-380) output. It is way to harsh. So, I am currently looking into other transformers, or ways to improve what I've got.

            Cool for you!

The Axion FTDP-350 will give you the correct B+ voltage. Jim at JMI Music has good prices on them. I think the FTDP-350 is the correct PT for all 5E3 builds, as the stock-spec transformer doesn't take into account the higher line voltage in our times.
