  • My YouTube video using my Mission 5E3

Last year, maybe longer, Bruce posted a video I shot with my camcorder using the camcorder mic. Today I shot a video using an SM57 up against the cloth.

The video is certainly rough in spots but I wanted to share the awesome tone more than anything else. Best Tweed Deluxe kit on the market, 5 years later I still haven't had a problem with it. Like a Timex and an Eveready rolled into one. Thinking about buying one? Do it.

    I hope you dig it...

Sam, just beautiful. Bruce does make a great TD.

Thank you, gentlemen. Sean, the amp volume was on '4', tone on '10'. I didn't want the tone to be too distorted due to the twangy riffs.

I shot another video yesterday and had the voloume on '10' and tone on '10'.

            That sounded awesome Sam!
Bruce should put that on his site! ;-)
I think the Tele & the 5E3 are such a perfect match.

So tell about the Tele settings...
Did you have the Vol/Tone down at all? What PU's are in it?
Also, what speaker do you have in the amp?

            Thanks
            Sean

That's a good old standard ain't it? - always gets people up and dancing when we cover it. Chuck was my first influence as a young geetar playing dude. I used to listen to his records for hours on end.

Great work Sam... and yes my favorite guitar with the 5E3 is a hot Tele with Barden pickups also... however a good sounding Strat is terrific too!
My least favorite is the Les Paul with those high output HB pickups.

Thanks again, gentlemen. A good standard for sure. I wanted to shoot a video yesterday and when I found this backing track, I shot it. I didn't even run throught it first, kind of like riding a bike, right?

Sean, The pickups are Lindy Fralin Stock Tele, wide open. The speaker is a Celestion Blue. As Bruce noted last year, I'm probably pushing it, but hey, I like to live dangerously!

Is that the stock kit, or did you bite on any of the upchargeable options (choke, etc?)

Dave, I put the kit together a few years ago, I'm not sure any upgrades were offered at that time. In any event, I didn't upgrade any of the components. It's all stock except for some RCA black plates I had lying around. To be honest, the tubes that were supplied with the kit were just fine.

Before building this, I only built a Champ. Building this kit was one of the most satisfying things I've ever done. The darn thing fired up the first time with zero problems.

I just checked the date on the photos, I built it in September of 2004.

Hey Sam-- would love to hear your clips-- they don't seem to be available anymore?

Hello. My previous clips were on an account that was suspended. I had used some copyrighted backing tracks for some of my other videos and Warner Bros. had a problem with it. Rules are rules. 1200 subscribers down the tubes.

Here they are again, as rough as they are:

Twangin' Tele through a Tweed Deluxe

                            Johnny B. Goode

What you hear is what you get. No upgrades and no audio sweetening. The Mission 5E3 is the best Tweed Deluxe repro you can get, kit or not.
