  • 5e3 gain problem

Having recently finished a amp based off a 5e3 design. I've found that while the sound is quite good, it seems to have little gain and has only minimal distortion even with the volume right up. Due to the power supply setup I'm using the main supply is running around 270v, which I would have thought would increase distortion due to the decreased voltage on the anodes of the preamp tubes. Is this the case or would the decreased voltage reduce the gain so far as to cause this? If so what would be a possible fix or what other possible causes might there be? Thanks, Joel.

    Hi Joel

Try lowering the 5k and 22k resistors.

Start with the 5k one and recheck the bias. If that's ok lower the 22k, hope you can get about 240 Volts at that node.
