  • Shielded Cable question.

When using shielded cable from the volume control to pin 2 of Preamp tube V2, obviously the ground wire (shield) gets soldered to a ground point on the volume control.

Where does the other end of that ground wire (the shield on the cable) connect on the tube socket side?

Does it get soldered to V2's pin 3?

best practice is to let it float, believe it or not.

it's the only way to avoid a ground loop.

The shield is almost always only connected at one end to prevent ground loops. Trim it neatly and use a bit of heat shrink tubing to prevent a short to anything at the tube socket.
WARNING! Musical Instrument amplifiers contain lethal voltages and can retain them even when unplugged. Refer service to qualified personnel.
