  • 5K1 Resister Burnout

I'm trying out different tubes and all of a sudden nothing. Smelled smoke.
What would make the 5K1 2w resister to burn out. It happened when I put in NOS GE-6v6 and a NOS GE-5Y3WGTB. The 5Y3WGTB looks like it is over heating. All I had to replace it is a 5K1 5w and it burned that one up to.
Any thoughts before I burn up another resister?

I think you are right. The 5Y3WGTB looked like it was a light bulb when it was in there. I put another 5K1 5w resister in and NOS Tung-Sol 6V6GT and a 5R4GA and it's working fine.
I just want to try the GE 6V6GT again to see if they work. When they where in there for the first 10 minuets they sounded great.
Thanks for the help Jazz P Bass. Time to wake the wife.lol

        What's this? A 5F1/5F2A?

If so the 5K1 sits beween B+ and screens, so something at the screen node is what killed the 5K1. Bad power tube, bad tube socket. Not ruling out a bad 5Y3 as well, but that alone can't burn up the 5K1...bad power tube and excess current draw could have damaged the original 5Y3.
