  • 5E3 Octal spacing

I'm ready to punch some holes for the octal tube sockets. Would someone please recommend the minimum spacing centers for the rectifier and power tubes for a 5E3 build (steel or aluminum chassis), if there is a difference. I'm trying to clear the Weber speaker (that I haven't bought yet) as much as I can.

I just found an old Gibson amp s'body gave me that has 2" centers for it's 5Y3/6v6/6v6. So that's what I'm going to do, if no one objects…

Just saw your post. Back a few decades ago, in tech school, we were told to use 1-1/2 to 2 times the tube diameter for spacing. So, I try to get at least 2" between octals. You won't find this to always be true on factory builds. I guess they accepted the interferance/hum that can occur as a fact of life.

Thank you, Jack! I decided to be smart and have 2.5", cuz I wanna be able to use SS rectifier w/ 6L6s too.
