I needed a combo amp for small jams and chose to join the 5E3 group after reading some of the threads here. I began this project at the end of November 2011 working on the average of once a week for about 2-3 hours when I could. This is my second amp build and unlike my first build (Weber 5E7M kit), I chose to select parts for this build.
Here is the list of parts
Mojotone 5E3 Small Parts
Mojotone Cabinet
Mojotone Chassis
ClassicTone Power and Output Transformers
Jensen P12Q Speaker
Tubes are: V1 - NOS 12AY7; V2 - Tung Sol RI 12AX7; V3 & V4 - Tung Sol RI 6V6's; V5 - NOS 5Y3
Outside of the building basics, I also aged the cabinet using Zinsser Bulls Eye Clear Shellac followed a week later with brushing on Zinsser Amber Shellac. The amp sounds really sweet and I got to use it at a low volume blues gig this past Friday. Can't wait to play at a louder venue soon. As for final touches, I may shorten a few leads that connect the OT to the output tubes.
Here is a video clip that I took of my friend trialing the amp. The volume on the normal channel was set around 4 1/2 and the tone control at 12 o'clock.
