How much can I change the layout of a 5e3 without substantial risk? Attached is what I am currently thinking about.

Without studying your proposed revisions in detail, I would say that the 5E3 is not a high-gain amp so the layout is not as critical as it might be otherwise. However, you should pay attention to the location and orientation of the transformers, since that can cause problems- you also need to follow a good grounding scheme. (Leo's designs have survived for many years- he must have been doing *something* right! )

"I happen to have an original 1955 Stratocaster! The neck and body have been replaced with top quality Warmoth parts, I upgraded the hardware and put in custom, hand wound pickups. It's fabulous. There's nothing like that vintage tone or owning an original." - Chuck H

Oscillation? Overheating? Motorboating? Canoeing? Meteor showers? Cold showers?Amazing!! Who would ever have guessed that someone who villified the evil rich people would begin happily accepting their millions in speaking fees!
Oh, wait! That sounds familiar, somehow.

I'd prefer *these* avatars but 80x80 pixels doesn't do them justice...

Yupp
I built one with an 11'' <--> chassis...works great.
Built another in an aluminum chassis, 19'', but whipped the board together @ 180,...so I ended up putting the pilot light is on the right hand side, and the board is upside down in there...I kinda built the board backwards and compensated, this one works fine also...
