    There is a physics paper out there describing a collection of mods for the 5e3. A search for 'milsk 5e3' (no quotes) brings it right up. One of the items they recomend is decoupling the power tube screens with a pair of 420 ohm resisters both to reduce power consumption and allow the tubes some independence from one another.

    I see the Pro has it's screens decoupled but not other fender amps -seems like a good thing; what are the drawbacks?

    Screen Grids

    Yes, you can use screen grid resistors. What the screen grid does is to basicaly help control the gain of the tube. Other Fender amps, such as the 5f6 Bassman, 5f8 Twin, and most all BFand SF amps use screen grids. Values for all schems I've seen is usualy 470.

    BTW, I believe that there was a thredd here on the forum that included this same article.
