  • 5e3 MojoTone & Tube Depot Parts Comparison

I purchased the Mojotone tweed deluxe kit but also decided to order the Tube Depot PCB and use it instead of the Mojo fiberboard included with their kit. The specs on some of the electronic components are slightly different and also there are more resisters with the Tube Depot kit than the Mojo. Will I be able to use the Tube Depot board with the Mojo kit if I get these extra resistors?
    Here is a comarison of the parts in both kits;
    MOJOTONE 14 CAPS
    3 TAD 16uF @ 475V Nominal
    3 Sprague 25uF @ 50V (TVA 1306)
    4 Orange Drop 0.1uF @ 600V
    1 Orange Drop 0.047uF @ 600V
    1 Orange Drop 0.0047uF @ 600V
    1 Orange Drop 0.022uF @ 600V
    1 Silver Mica 500pF@ 500V
    TUBE DEPOT 14 Caps
    1 500pfd / 500V tone capacitors
    1 .0047ufd / 630V tone capacitors
    1 .022ufd / 630V coupling capacitors
    4 .1ufd / 630V coupling capacitors
    1 .01ufd / 630V coupling capacitor (alternate part for C7)
    3 22ufd / 50V cathode bypass capacitors
    3 22ufd / 500V power supply filter capacitors
    MOJOTONE 23 resistors
    2 Carbon Comp / Xicon 56k 1/2W Resistor
    4 Carbon Comp / Xicon 68k 1/2W Resistor
    1 Carbon Comp / Xicon 820 1/2W Resistor
    2 Carbon Comp / Xicon 100 OHM 1/2W Res.
    1 Carbon Comp / Xicon 22k 1/2W Resistor
    2 Carbon Comp / Xicon 220k 1/2W Resistor

    4 Carbon Comp / Xicon 1.5k 1/2W Resistor
    1 Ceramic 5W 270 OHM Resistor
1 4.7K, 2w metal oxide B+ voltage divider resistors (tube depot resistor is 3 watt)
    TUBE DEPOT 28 Resistors
2 100, 1/2w carbon film pseudo filament center tap
    1 820, 1/2w carbon film cathode resistor
    4 68K, 1/2w carbon film input resistor
3 1M, 1/2w carbon film preamp tube grid biasing
    3 100K, 1/2w carbon film plate resistor
    4 1.5K, 1/2w carbon film cathode resistor
    2 56K, 1/2w carbon film bias resistor
2 220K, 1/2w carbon film power tube grid biasing
    1 22K, 1w metal oxide B+ voltage divider resistors
1 250, 5w metal oxide power tube cathode resistor
TUBE DEPOT Resistors not included in MOJOTONE Kit
    1 2.7K, 1/2w carbon film feedback resistor
    1 47, 1/2w carbon film feedback resistor
2 470, 2w metal oxide screen grid resistors
    1 4.7K, 3w metal oxide B+ voltage divider resistors
    (Mojo resistor is 2 watt)
As you can see the resistors are basically identical, but last 5 in the list are not included with the Mojo Kit. I guess maybe they are there to accommodate the negative feedback jumper option on the Tube Depot PCB?

The capacitors are very similar on both kits, but most of the Mojotone voltages are slightly lower specs., than the Tube Depot cap specs.. Would this make any difference?
    The transformers are different as well as the tubes in these kits. Here is another comparison of the rest of the parts;

Maybe I should just scrap the whole ideal and build the Mojotone kit stock? What do you think?
Keep in mind this is a first time build, and I am a high school drop out, but I do build my own computers and guitars. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

      To answer my own questions;
I have come to the conclusion that the 2.7K, 1/2w carbon film feedback resistor and the
47, 1/2w carbon film feedback resistor on the Tube depot PCB are only used when the feedback jumper is enabled. Therefore I should be able to do without them entirely unless I want to use the feedback mod.
The 470, 2w metal oxide screen grid resistors are also optional, many kits do not include screen grid resistors.
The *original* purpose for screen-grid resistors was to quell oscillations. The 5E3, running at lower screen voltages than later designs, isn't as susceptible to this. That said, there's certainly no harm in adding them.
So basically the only other issue is the fact that Mojotone
Ceramic 5W 270 OHM tube cathode resistor and
4.7K, 2w metal oxide B+ voltage divider resistor
are slightly different values than the Tube Depot
250, 5w metal oxide power tube cathode resistor and the
4.7K, 3w metal oxide B+ voltage divider resistor.
Therefore this should not matter either if I do not enable the feedback jumper option on the Tube Depot PCB.
Do you see any flaws in my deductive reasoning?
