  • Tweed Deluxe Mic Volume?

I've looked and cannot find an explanation why they labeled the one volume as a "mic volume". It's really just a main volume - correct?

There is a difference between the Mic & Inst volumes - Mic channel does not benefit from the 500pf bright cap that runs from the Inst vol to the Tone pot. This makes the Mic channel dark sounding, until you really turn it up..then it comes to life.

Back in the 50's & early 60's a lot of guys would have run a cheap hi-z mic into that channel rather than use a PA. Later amps renamed the Mic channel as the Normal channel. Fender intended that whole bands would play through some of their amps...not a popular idea with the guy that owned the amps however.

First, electric instruments were invented. Then came loud and very loud. A lot of garage bands got by just fine running the mic's into guitar amps.

We have reel to reel tapes of my brothers band that my other brother produced, Jeff played a strat and a 'radio' mic [EV, IIRC, heavy machined large aluminum bulbous look, w/switch] into his Twin Reverb, vocals and guitar sound great too.

I still see bands practicing like this by me. I think it's when you get older you have the money to buy a PA, years pass and you think that was stuff way back in yonder days. It's still going on. I see guys still using those Radio Shack impedance adapters ran into an extra channel on a guitar or bass amp.

            Touche, vg3000.

I guess I just don't see many amps with the front end set up for that except for the Fender re-issues and copies.
