I honestly don't know the diff between the two and haven't tried the second. It's a simple mod, but you know what? I never use it anymore. I don't need the headroom. To me, it takes away some of the amp's dynamics. But I have heard it's helpful at shedding some gain if you have to use a 12ax7 instead of the 12ay7 in the first slot.
