  • Getting more out of a 5E3

    Hey guys,
I have a Tweed Twin RI. I love the amp but I need a quieter stage volume. So, I'm trying to accomplish the sound that I get from my Twin with the Volume on 6 or 7 but from a smaller amp with 1x12. I'm thinking 15-22 watts.

A friend is building for me. Is there a way to get this from a 5E3?
Any advice on speaker selection, OT, or tubes would help.

    Thanks a lot.

No, I don't think so, the 5E3 and the Twin sound completely different due to the very different architecture. If you want a reduced volume twin I would look to build that amp with reduced power output, probably using 6V6's, and a single 12" instead of two. Or you could employ an attenuator on your twin to bring the volume down.
