  • To even out the balance across strings?

In the process of tuning my 5E3 clone for my needs, I have reached the conclusion that I need the bass to be a bit less dominant. Turning up the tone helps a bit but it doesn't really confront the problem directly, hence I have made the "schwitchable less bass mod"-post to get advice on the subject.

However, I am a bit puzzled whether my problem is just a question of amount of bass, or if it is also something else concerning the balance across the strings - in the sense that the thicker strings seems more dominant than the thin.

I find all of my other amps (66 super reverb, 69 marshall 1987 etc.) to sound more even across the strings regarding level. On the deluxe it is a bit harder to get those licks on the high strings to stand out. Opposite, I have to be carefull not to get notes on the low strings to stand out. The rig is strat->kendrick reverb->deluxe. An example could be if I play a tune with bass lines ala Hollywood Fat's "Red Headed Woman" (a bit like SRV's "Pride and Joy") , then the bass lines will be to dominant if I dont compensate a lot in my playing. I guess this is just the nature of the beast however, I think that it is something I would like to be rid of.

Are there others who experience this too?
