  • PT current rating for 6L6 in Brown Princeton

    Hi all,

I am going to build a Brown Princeton 6G2 (B+: 315V according to schematic, original PT: 290-0-290), but it should handle 6L6 tubes, too.

Would a Hammond with 125ma current rating be "enough", or should I go up to 150ma?

AFAIK, the 6L6 tubes should idle at about 35ma in such an amp.

    I am thinking about these:
    Hammond 372DX: 300-0-300, 125ma
    Hammond 372FX: 300-0-300, 150ma

Mercury Mag. doesn't make a 6L6 ready PT for that amp, I checked that.

Hammonds are generally conservatively rated so you may be able to get by with either just fine. If price and availablility weren't an issue I would use the 150mA one.

They have one that might be close, their Axiom FTBP-59-M2, found under
      Bassman - " '59 Tweed -- lowest B+ -- FatStack" :

      310-0-310
      6.3v @ 7A
      5v @ 3a
      Bias 60v@50ma

I don't have the exact figure for the B+ current rating but the above
was offered by Mercury Magnetics when I asked for a transformer with
180-200 ma B+. I haven't gotten around to asking for the missing info.

      Not cheap at 225$...
