  • Silvertone 1483 power transformer?

    Hi,

I'm about to build a Silvertone 1483 "bass" amp.
I'll be using the Mercury Magnetics 1483 output transformer,
but I'm still not sure about the power transformer...

The schematic that I have specifies 360-0-360 at the PT secundary,
but it also says 360V after the 5Y3 rectifier...?
    It's a 2 x 6L6 cathode bias amp.
Schematics says 350V on the power tubes,
    (115V at V1 - 140V at V2 - 160V at V3)

I'll need a 5V winding for the rectifier, but I want to experiment with a bunch of them, so I'll need at least 3A.

    I'll need a 6V winding for:
    2 x 12AX7 (might want to experiment with 5157 and 12AY7)
    1 x 6CG7 or 6FQ7
    2 x 6L6 (might want to experiment with KT66, 5881)

Any thoughts/recommendations on a power transformer for this projects?
I can get Mercury, Hammond, ...
    I'll need a 220/240 primary!

    Thanks for any help!

    the Edcor XPWR059
    primary 120/240Vrms, 50/60Hz.
    secondary 750V(375-0-375)@175mA,
    50V@50mA, (fixed bias?)
    6.3V(3.15-0-3.15)@6A
    5V(2.5-0-2.5)@3A
    $74.45
    EDCOR - XPWR059

    11lbs of blue steel!

for about $40 more they'll wind a custom one to your exact specs, Edcor's a nice USA company with good products and value, they even have a company guard dog!
    (spooky)

that edcor transformer isn't a bad idea
      good price also

and... the european distributor is 20km from my home
but... they only offer a small selection and this one isn't available...
      strange stuff!
      i wouldn't call that distributing... :-)

i was thinking about a hammond 290 CEX
it has 325-0-325, so that might be a bit low?

i find it strange that the schematic has 360-0-360 as a secundary,
but also 360 AFTER THE RECTIFIER (5Y3)
      shouldn't there be a difference of 1.2 ?

is a bit odd on the voltages, I'd want to take readings...

Edcor does mainly direct sales and includes an "outside the US" telephone # for ordering...575-887-6790

hopefully shipping won't kill you, or they might ship to dist. Hammond's are always a bit of a compromise in my experience...

In Duncan Amps PSUD II the C1 voltage is a ripply ~360"VDC" with only 2-3k load
