  • 5E4-Mission Amp TX's

Anyone built one? I have a set of transformers from Bruce that I'm hoping to
use in this build. Any pointers?

I've never seen a 5E4 schematic.....where did you find one??

It's the same as the 5E4-A save for one lonely resistor in the bias supply changed from 22K to 18K.

Never seen one of those 6V6-based Supers.....wonder what the tone is like...

I surely do like my Mission 5F4, though!

I never have either. I'm still kicking around whether to go fixed or cathode-biased and which PI to use as well as mulling a CF-driven tone stack. I guess I'd have a 5F6A front end with a 6V6 output, sort of. I was just wondering if the Mission PT supports the extra 12AX7. 5F4 sounds cool too.

Which power and output tranny are you planning on using?
The 6V6s set, or the 6L6 set?

Yes, an extra 12AX7 will be nearly invisible to the PT and, you can run a pair of 5881s with that 15W OT if you keep the idle current down to 32-36ma for each tube.
The OT is under rated at 15 watts from 40Hz to 7.5KHz. It can easily handle +22 watts at most guitar freqs.

I use the same MA 20W PT in a lightly loaded 6L6 amp with four 12AX7s and an OT about the size of a Pro Reverb.
Never had a problem with that set up yet.

Thanks Bruce, I wasn't too worried, pretty stout iron, surprised that little OT can handle 5881's, cool.
