Classic Tone 40-18027 Wiring Question

Hi Guys,

I'm well along the way in my 5F1 build but have hit a wall (hopefully a speed bump )

I'am following the Triode 5F1 layout with slight references to the BYOC Champ kit instructions

My question is both the Triode any BYOC state my transformer should have a Red/Black Wire which is unfortunately absent. My question is how do I wire the PT up? I am basically unsure what to do with the White/Common wire I am in the USA so I'm trying to wire it for 120v AC

I currently have

Red/Yellow Grounded by PT
Green/Yellow Grounded by PT
Black and Brown connected and shrink tubed


Rectifier

Yellow and Yellow connected to pins 2 & 8
Red and Red connected 6 & 4
Green and Green Running to lamp than to 2 & 7 of the Power tube and 4+5 & 9 of the pre amp

Hoping this is a simple fix, I tried to make sense of the wiring diagram on Classic Tones website as they do not mention the allusive black/red wire in their diagram.

I currently have the following not connected to anything:

Black/White
Brown/White

The Triode Diagram shows these connected together at the fuse

Lastly the

Pair of Red/White (I understand these will not be used)


My transformer Classic Tone 40-18027 has 14 wires total where as the one in both the BYOC and Tridoe only have 13 could this perhaps be a newer/different version?l

I bought the transformer from Triode USA earlier this week

You can give Magnetic Components or Triode a call and they will walk you through the wiring. What you have encountered is that Magnetic Components has made a change to the 40-18027 since the Triode layout was done. The 40-18027 use to have a red/blk wire that was one of the primary side connections as shown on the Triode layout. It also had a thermal cutout..MC deleted the thermal cutout and did away with the red/blk lead..Transformer wiring would be as follows:

Connect black to brown and this connection would replace the red/black wire on the layout. ie:connect the connection of the black and brown wire to the white wire on your power cable. Shrink wrap the ends of both red/white wires. They are not used. All else is as shown.

Something you might want to consider is adding a seperate on/off switch for the power..What Triode is doing is using a switch built into the volume pot. The times that I have tried to do this I had trouble with 60 hz hum being picked up through the volume pot. Good luck with your build. The Fender Champ is a fun amp.

Well I got her fired up last night and she sounds really good! Clean to about 6 on the dial then the dirt comes on till 12, I dig it

How loud should these amps be, I am mainly accustomed to JTM45 and 100w Marshalls so I'm use to having ear-ringing loud amps. I currently have a Weber Alnico Signature 8s speaker in a home-made pine cab.

Any suggestions/comments would be great.

I'll be sure and post a picture of the amp in a new thread when I get a chance to snap some quality photos

How loud should the amp be?
That is a very subjective question.
The actual power output should be 5 watts.
So a 50 watt amp will be twice as loud.
The 8" speaker will limit the bass response as will the efficiency of the speaker itself.
An open backed cab will further limit the perceived 'loudness'.
And the size of the room will also alter the sound level.
Can of worms, really.
