When you find out let me know.
I've acquired a couple of 5U4Gs I'm trying out for my iminent 5G9 build - Sovtek and EH - I believe the EH one is a 5U4GB, so I'll try that first. Even tho' some sites say that you shouldn't sub a 5U4G for a 5U4GB, the Sovtek 5U4G is supposed to be a sub for a 5U4GB so I will give that a try, but it is huge ("coke bottle" style) and I am concerned about how it will fit in a tweed style combo.Building a better world (one tube amp at a time)

You are not "subbing" anything if you have not built the amp yet. If the power requirements of the amp are within the limits of the 5U4G, and they probably will be, the go ahead and use it. Tube specs are online if you don't have a tube manual. I have been using the EH for years with no problems, but I understand the coolness of a nice "coke bottle" shaped old one. The Svetlana 5U4 had all eight pins which held it tighter in upside down sockets. The New Sensor "Svetlana" does not have this.

I didn't mean subbing as in 'subbing a member of the team during play'. My meaning was intended more to be substituting one type for another. (Sorry - don't want to seem nit picky - probably the cultural difference between northern and southern hemisphere vernacular).

Yep found some thanks - courtesy of Enzo. They confirm what you just said.

Glad to hear your experience with the EH is positive. This affirms my decision to get one. I didn't get the Sovtek Coke Bottle on purpose - to be honest I didn't know what I was buying in terms of what it looked like, until it arrived, and I thought "F**k how's that going to fit in the 10" odd inches of space in the back of the combo with power chords flying around (etc etc)". That's when I panicked an orded the EH.

That would be neat to find.Building a better world (one tube amp at a time)

I ran into a box of "NOS" Svetlana 5U4Gs (ST envelopes, you call them Coke bottles) ....from Europe about three or so years ago.
The date code was around +1982, or something like that.
I found them to be pretty darn good in the Mission 5F4 kits and with my Heyboer 5F4 power transformers, I would see around 405vdc-415vdc on the plates with the power tubes idling around 45ma to 55ma each.
