  • 5F4 Mission kit - costs and budget speaker options

I'm looking at building my first kit, and quite keen on a 5F4 from Bruce. Does anyone know what the kit costs (I can't find the info on the Mission website) without cab and speakers.

I would need a 240v transformer as I'm in New Zealand.

Secondly, due to limited budget I am thinking about using 2xWeber Sig10As. Is there a better speaker option for those on a tight budget? I'm not too fussy on tone (at this stage), as I can always upgrade at a later stage. Should I mix and match speakers?

Lastly, having only used mass produced amps before I'm worried about having no built in reverb, should I really be worried about this?

    Thanks,
    Matt

I put the 10's from warehousespeakers.com into mine, after trying various Weber and Eminence speakers.

    The amp sounds GREAT.

I found my original email from Bruce (from 3 years ago)...here is the gist of it (remember prices MAY have climbed since then):

"The 5F4 kit with all the good stuff is $575.00
    The cabinet is $275.00.
Speaker choices are all over the place and I can't get a handle on what builders
want so I don't stock many anymore.
I like the WeberVST 10A100T and 10F125 or 10F150 combo."

      Thanks for that.

The kit is substantially more than a 5E3 so I might need to reassess my 'needs'. Good idea about the Wharehouse speakers I'll have a look.

      Kind regards
      Matt

I have several tweeds, and I have never missed having reverb while using them. The sound is so organic with these amps they doesn't seem to need verb to provide a gorgeous wet tone.

An easy reverb solution with the tweed amps is the LINE 6 Verbzilla.
I think it is as good or better then most and will not break the bank.

+1. Been using one for 12 months now and it's a great pedal.
            Works well with my 5F1
