My Ampeg BA115 won't stop blowing fuses!

Hi,

My Ampeg BA115 has started blowing fuses as soon as i power on the amp.

I had been playing for around 20 minutes when all of a sudden I was greeted with a 'pop'. I opened the amp up to find the fuse had blown. I replaced it with a fast acting 3A 250V fuse, and tried powering up the amp again. As soon as I hit the power button, the fuse blew again. I was unsure if the previous fuse was a slow blow, so I tried a slow blow in it, just for kicks. This achieved the same result as the fast acting.

Does anyone have any strategies on how I might be able to find what is causing this?

Your amp is solid state, and when a solid state amp blows it's fuse on power up, it usually means a shorted output device or rectifier diode.

If you have the skills to find such a problem, then we can help advise you on how tackle this job. If you don't know what you are doing, you may cause more damage than you cure, so proceed with caution.

If the amp is still under warantee, then perhaps a return to an authorized Ampeg service dealer is your best bet.

I'm not entirely sure if the amp is still under warranty. I believe Ampeg give you five years on the electrics. I'm keen to remedy the situation myself. I'm not sure how to find exactly what the problem is. I have a fully stocked toolkit and a killer Multimeter if anyone would be kind enough to offer some guidance.
