When drawn correct to the datasheets, 'A' side of 12AX7 is pins 6,7,8. 'B' side is pins 1,2,3. Someone said why they are opposite what we expect but I forgot the answer.

With the jacks, it's not in this case about insulating the grounds, but needing the extra switch, which is easier and cheaper with the cliff style.
Here I have circled the switch you were missing:

Cliff jack installed at HI input and all the other issues seem to have resolved. Both inputs are cranking!

Moving on to some other repairs but will come back for some cleanup and hopefully final posts.

      Thank you

Have a video of the HI input if you would like to hear the sound on Youtube

The HI input is crazy loud with the master volume on 1. Reminds me of the YBA-1 volume behavior.

Judging by the speaking volume vs guitar volume this is just the preamp overdrive we're hearing then, correct?

Sounds great. Better than most 800's actually. When you cleaned up with the volume that was particularly impressive considering this is just the preamp distortion and what most 800's do. EQ wise it seems to have a little more high mids than an 800. This might be for the better as far as landing in a mix without seeming too mid cut as some 800's do but you'll need to actually try it in a mix to know. Serious kudos

Master Volume was always on one in the video. Preamp volume started out on 10 and guitar volume was adjusted at certain points as well as amp preamp volume.

I am really pleased with the sound.
