  • Ibanez fl9 flanger lights up but no effect

My 1985 ibanez fl9 lights up when i engage the pedal but does not generates the effect. Should c130 and c131 electrolytics caps be replaced? Any suggestions?

So you get dry signal through either engaged or disengaged but no flange effect?

Here is service manual. There is a troubleshooting flow chart. http://www.mojotronics.com/images/FL9.pdf

Are they leaking ... does the oscillator run?
If they are low value, the oscillator will run too fast and produce a flanger on steroids!
Support for Fender, Laney, Marshall, Mesa, VOX and many more. https://jonsnell.co.uk
If you can't fix it, I probably can.

Well i replaced both c130 and c131 electrolytic caps with 2 47uf 16 volts caps. It started ocillating and sounding more as a chorus with some jet sound in the background. I do hear some crakling or dirt noise in the background also. How do i get rid of this noise and get more flange sound as lenny kravitz gets in are you gonna go my way?

Im still getting dry signal after replacing c130 and c131 yellow elecrolytic caps. Should i now change the diode?

It sounds like you are trying to replace one or two parts hoping to get it to work without diagnosing the real problem. That rarely works. I think you need to follow the flowchart in the service manual and check all of the test points called out (CP1,2,3, etc) to diagnose the problem. You will need an oscilloscope to do this, though it could be a very simple one.

Cant i do it with a multimeter? Whats the function of the diode below those 2 caps?

If you look at the waveforms shown at the different test points in the service manual you won't be able to see if those are correct with a multimeter. If you don't know what that diode does why do you think replacing it would help?

Maybe you have a bad solder connection that is getting jiggled every time you work on the board. You could try resoldering it.

Ill have to check again. Ive taken pictures again for your feedback The effect is always on either engaged or bypassed. Ive only changed the 2 filter caps and the diode 103. How do i tackle this?
