i've been putting this thread off for a while as i feel a little guilty for flooding this forum with noob questions, but here goes.
I bought this el cheapo amp from ebay while back fixed two pairs of wires that had broken, plugged it in and the tubes light up, i get a hum from the speakers, i wait a minute or two and decide to try plug in my guitar and... nothing... i pull the lead out tap the end... nothing... all i get is this hum that (reassuringly) gets louder when i turn the volume up, but no signal.
I've gone back over those two wires i fixed checking if i did a bad solder job but nothing changed when i re did them.
In the next few days i should be replacing all the caps (the current ones dont seem to be in bad nick though) with mainly sprague atoms for the big ones, cheap polyester caps for the moderate sized and silver mica for the babies and in the process re-soldering any cold solders, while im at it. i will hopefully also replace all the tube sockets with fresh ones, mainly for piece of mind in knowing everything should work properly.
And im just wondering if someone could make a type of check list to go through from start to finish to when people in a similar situation cant get a signal. Cheers.
