hi, i'm new to this board but maybe someone here can help. i'm pretty good at older marshalls , hiwatts blah, blah . from what i've seen of the tsl and dsl line of marshall i have to say i'm not all that impressed. anyway, a friend of mine was playing a show the other night with a marshall as100d which usually sounds pretty good . well, it doesn't sound good anymore...distorted, low gain generally not a happy amp....are there any well known problem areas in these amps that should be checked first such as ribbon connectors, edge connectors etc or are these amps fairly problem free........ i haven't even gotten the cover off yet i have not even ruled out x over and speakers yet...i'm just trying to get some background info before i go in....thanks, frank

Each speaker has its own amp, so if it has both speakers sounding punk, then I;d look for common factors. Is the signal OK at the entry to each power amp, how does it sound at the effects send, how does a signal input to the efects return sound out the speaker. Is the mute stuck? Is the IC that serves the mater volume screwed up? Etc.Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.
