    Can I butt in? To valvehead.

    A scope is a great idea. I use a 20Mhz Instek with a built in function generator. That's great for simple audio signal path troubleshooting. Also You might go to jestineyong.com and check out his ebooks on troubleshooting. There are some inexpensive test tools such as an ESR meter and Insulation tester that are invaluable for testing electrolytic caps. The ESR meter (equivalent series resistance) tests the caps right in the cirquit. The insulation tester tests caps at close to or equal to operating voltage.

    I'm not up on the amp your working on but thanks for the thread. I've got a similar problem with a H&K Trilogy guitar head right now. It has a low frequency hum in the Lead and Ultralead channels. I've been working on it for days! Are you familiar with this amp?
