  • Boogie Nomad 45- All tone controls dead- Ch. 1 only

I have recently purchased a Boogie Nomad 45, 1-12 combo and when I got it the tone controls on channel 1 were not working. Everything else seems to be working perfectly and the seller assures me that it was working when he shipped it (I believe him, the amp is in mint condition).

The channel works fine otherwise but the bass, mid, treble and presence do not affect the sound at all. If I turn the mid pot full clockwise or counter-clockwise it actually cuts the sound out on the channel completely but does not change the tone anywhere in between. I have tried trading the tubes out with no luck. I love the amp and I'm hoing tat this is an easily solved problem, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Addition to my own thread

I have just been reading some of the other threads on the forum (sorry, I know I should have done that before posting. Late gig last ngiht and up too early with the kids) and saw the 'possible bad pots' thread about the Nomads so I will pull the chassis and check that now. If there was one bad pot here would it effect all of them? it is juat strange that it is all of the tone pots on channel 1 only. I did leave a message with Boogie tech repair Friday btu they are only open limited hours for Monday and Tuesday then out completely until Jan 5 and I don't want to wait that long to play my 'New to me' Boogie!

Also- I see a lot of posts from guys who seem REALLY technically inclined. I know a little about tubes, can tell you when I hear a dirty pot and I'm handy with a screwdriver but much more than that and I am a bit lost so if anyone thinks the problem is more technical I would appreciate the dumbed down version for those of us on the amp repair short bus. Thanks for the help!

      Mesa Nomad 45 tone control

If the mid pot is going open circuit, your tone control will not function.
This is an old gain trick, lift the mid to ground. No tone control but more gain.
Check the right leg of the mid pot to ground as your turning the knob. If it does not change, then the pot is faulty. Full left should read 7 ohms to ground. Full right, 23K
      Hope this helps
