  • Peavey 5150 EVH filament problem

no guitar sound through this amp....faint hiss only.

12AX7 tubes V1-V4 are not lighting up at all....V5 (12AX7 closest to power tubes) and power tubes are lit.

there's pregressively decreasing amounts of DC voltage going from pin4V5 to pin5V5 to pin4V4 to pin5V4 to pin4V3 to pin5V3....all the way to V1, from 25V down to 10V. Is this normal? I'm thinking it is, and if that's the case, is there a ground missing to cause V1-4 to be dark? Or some other problem I'm overlooking?

I'm not familiar enough with these DC filament circuits....thanks for your help!

I had this problem with a 5150 a while back. the solution was a new resistor in the preamp heater circuit. can't remember which one, but if memory serves, the preamp heater circuit is a 25-volt system, and the resistor drops it down so as not to shorten the life of the heaters. this may or may not solve your problem.

That is what I would say too. The heaters are in series on a DC supply. If I recall, there are a couple power resistors, and one is likely open.
