  • Assembling an Ampeg SR-212RT

    Hey guys,

I've owned an ampeg superrocket for almost a year now that hasn't ever worked properly. The channels were noisy and the tremolo thumped loudly. Anyhow, I just finished replacing all the caps, diodes, transistors, and ICs on the boards and am putting it back together. I received an assembly schematic from Ampeg (who've been very helpful sending me documentation that I've needed), but there's a part on the wire hookup section that I can't understand.

The entire document is available here.

Which column of the hookup chart should I use to connect the jumpers for my amp? I have absolutely no idea what the J, W, and U stand for. I checked my serial number and it doesn't seem to correlate.

Any ideas on which column to use for the hookup?

That is the power transformer connections. It is a universal transformer, so those connections are made to suit the 120v, 100v, 230v,240v mains around the world.

I don;t know which column to use, I have no idea where in the world you are. I also don;t know which column is which. If I had to guess - and that means GUESS - I'd say the J meant Japan (100v), the U meant USA (120v), and the W meant worldwide (240v), and who knows what the blank one means.

Your document is not complete, the schematic or other parts of the documentation should have more information.

Or just call them and ask which column fits your mains voltage.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

      Hey Enzo,

Thanks for the help, it set me in the right direction. For those interested, the blank box is actually for US setup, J for Japan, W for Worldwide, and U for Universal.

I'm going to hook up the connections tonight, rebias the amp, and hopefully the cap, diode, transistor, and IC job will have fixed my thumping tremelo and noisy channels.

        Hey guys,

Thanks to all, Enzo and Bassman3 especially, who helped answer questions I had while majorly overhauling my Ampeg Superrocket. I put it back together last night and pure butter was emitted from the speakers. This amp is a joy to play, and I want to thank the forum for its help.
