  • need leads or ideas for a replacement Fender switched pot

    Hey Folks,

I have a Fender Twin Reverb II here in the shop. The channel two volume knob with switch on it has exploded (the shaft pulled out and customer can't find it...not that there would much I could do to fix it anyway). It looks like a regular pot and then the switch part hangs on the back kind of perpendicular to the pot body (see picture).

Does anyone know where I might find one of these or something else that would work? The owner would like to keep amp as original looking as possible.

    Thanks

Check with Fender to see if they still have any, then order from a Fender dealer.

Check with places like www.tubesandmore.com, I know they have some pots with pull switches.

Mouser and Allied - seems to me they have pull switch pots. Flip through the pots section of the paper catalog.

      Thanks Enzo,

I checked with Fender and they don't have anything like what's in there. I can order from Fender direct if I want as I am a Fender certified tech. They suggested one of the modern switch pots and I may have to do that. I also checked with T & M and Mojo Tone, New Sensor, etc...no go. I will poke around on ebay, etc a bit and see if I can come up with something a little more "vintage" first...sometimes I feel as if this whole "vintage" thing has gotten a bit out of hand.

My customer may just have to accept what I can find and make work.

CTS makes a pot "1M Ohm Log Push/Pull pot with Switch" that might fit.

Mesa uses a lot of push pull pots, perhaps you could find one of theirs that would work as a replacement.

Thanks txstrat...I saw those...close but no ceegah...it has to be a spdt or dpdt switch...those had spst. CTS might make double throw switched pots though...I'll have to dig a little deeper...

The owner is in no hurry so I have some time to do a bit of research...

              It the amp stock?
From the schematic I'd say a spst switch would be ok. It just opens the ground of the circuit for the vactrols when pushed in.

yeah, the amp is stock. If the pot was OK, I'd tell him to use the footswitch but the shaft pulled out so I have to replace the whole thing. The schematic I have (but not at hand right now as I'm not near my shop) shows, if memory serves me right, a spdt switch, ground being the common pole and then one or the other of the other two poles is grounded, depending on whether the switch is in or out. As I remember, a spst switch won't work. I will have to double check that when I get back to my shop tonight.

just found a schematic on line...it has to be a dpsp (or dpdt) switch as it's switching between two vactrols...

Sorry, my fault. spdt is the right one.

I'm trying one more place and then I'm popping in a more modern pot...I can't tie up space in here with an amp on the shelf waiting for something I may never find...plus it's costing me money in time trying to locate a "vintage" pot...phooey on vintage...at least in this application.
