  • never changed a fuse b4fender princeton 112

    hey,i need to change a fuse on my fender princeton 112+ ,
    but ive never changed any before,,in the manual it says
    " no user serviceable parts inside" would it be dangerous to open it up?
    i took of a metal backplate off thinking that was the fuse housing but it was not..
    anyhelp?

    usually the fuse would be accessible from the rear panel, or possibly the front panel. if you cant find a fuse, how do you know thats the problem?

      i found the fuse i think it is broken, .. on the fuse it says ia250v. (i think its a i)hard to read)
      on my peavy 5150 the fuse says t4al 250v..
      could i use this fuse in the fender?
      what do the letters before the 250v mean?

        Get a magnifier to verify, because it is critical that you put the right fuse back in the Princeton.

        Especially if the Princeton takes a 1A fuse and the 5150 takes a 4A fuse, which sounds like it might be the case.

        Think of it this way, if the Princeton calls for a 1 amp fuse, but you have put in a 4 amp fuse, the Princeton circuit will continue to run with up to four times the amount of current than Fender thinks is advisable for this circuit, before blowing and shutting down. This will damage the amp, burning out various resistors, capacitors, diodes.... and melting a few wires, too.

        It's okay to use a lesser value fuse, but you run the risk that it will blow unnecessarily (cutting off during your third solo in Free Bird)

            Btw if you can get your hands on an ohmmeter, you can test that questionable fuse to see if is still good or not.

            Set the meter to any impedance range, touch one probe to each metal end of the fuse. If the readout works it's way down towards .000 ohms, then one end has continuity with the other and the fuse is still GOOD.

            If the meter stays at 1, it has infinite resistance, no continuity and the fuse is BAD.
