Hi all. A new poster here so please be patient. Was reading a post and response from Enzo and now have a question. I have a Crate vc5212 that a friend and myself have been troubleshooting and after determining it had some bad solder joints I decicded to change tubes whike in there because of age and some buzzing. Bought matched quad of GT el84s #4. Wellnot happy with them as one is bad. Anyway three are in and one older tube till i can get new tube. Installed 1 ohm 1 watt resistors tocheck current and getting 33,32.32, and 23(the old eube) ma's. Will this hurt the amp? Also any recommendations on what kind of tubes would be best to use next time. Saw a post about Sovtek EL84Ms being good. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advanced. BTW love this forum.

No it won;'t hurt the amp. Get the bad new tube replaced from the tube seller.
Crate doesn;t install matched tubes in their amps when they ship, no one does.Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

ANY brand can come dead in the box. All it takes is the truck they are deliverd in crossing a rough train track at speed. The tubes won;t like the bouncing. If you are looking for a tube that will never fail, you won;t find it. Or the people selling it are lying.Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.
