  • speaker polarity

hi, i have an extension cab i would like to use with my 112combo. the speaker in the ext cab is an old jensen c12q(i think). the + terminal isnt marked as far as i can tell. if i hook up the speaker leads "backwards", could it damage the speaker, or would it just be out of phase with the speaker in the combo?
    thanks, rich

Provided you aren't presenting your amp with the wrong load impedance by combining the two speakers, It'll just be out of phase with the other speaker.

An easy test to get two speakers in phase is to take a 9v battery and place it across the speaker terminal while lightly touching the cone. Note which direction the cone moved (in or out) and what side of the 9v was on each terminal. Do the same for the other speaker. When you've identified which direction the 9v needs to be to get the speakers to move in the same direction, you can then wire them in phase.
