  • Peavey Impuls disassembly?

Anyone ever take apart Peavey Impulse 200 powered speakers?
They have a back panel rimmed with screws, half come out, some feel like they have a nut on them, and some won't pull out even though they are loose.
What am I missing here, usually the back panels just come right off.

    Yeah, but I don't remember.

The rear panel should have screws around the edge. The ones away from the edge mount things to it. If any of the edge screws don;t come out, are their holes stripped? If someone overtightened them into the plastic, they can strip.

With screws out, it should come free, but watch for short wires in back.

If they are stripped? I hate that too. Best I can do is get under the panel with a screwdriver and apply upward presure on the underside of the screw head. Hopefully it will get a purchase with its threads then and back out. I have been known to grind off the head of a screw with a carbide wheel in my Dremel. Then you are left with the screw shaft to extract.

I have an old pair of flush cutters I use for screws. I get the blades flat on the panel and squeeze hard - as if I were trying to snip the screw head off - and pull up while I turn. If it is stripped in the hole, sometimes I will just pull up, hoping to pull the screw from the hole.

    Hope that is helpful.

      Thanks, very helpful.
I've fixed other powered speakers and the screws just came out.
Some of these do, others feel like they have nuts on them. I applied upward pressure with a screwdriver and even needlenose and a couple don't want to come out.
Before I cut the heads off I just wanted to make sure they didn't have nuts or some sort of captive nut holding them in.
      Thanks again as always Enzo.

CALL the repair department at Peavey and ask. Call when they first open in the AM. They are on central time. For all I know there is one screw under something
