  • Hummmmmmmmm.....

What am I hearing if I am hearing a low background hum similar to first fret A string tone, even w. the amp on standby? Thanks!

Well, that would be a lot easier to answer if we knew what the amp was, and whether the hum was coming out the speaker or was coming from the chassis itself.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

Oops! Sorry - Gibson GA42RVT, sound coming through speakers (2X12). I plugged into another 2X12, same thing. Swapped tubes around, same thing. It's been there since new and it seems to be a common complaint with these; it doesn't really bother me but since I've been slowly learning about what's inside and making some changes, now I'm wondering if it is something that can be 'fixed.' I vaguely remember reading something, somewhere, about cheap chinese filter caps causing some type of hum but can't remember where. All of the big caps in this are either 'Chang' or 'KQC.'
