  • Question about capacitor values and voltages....?

I'm looking at an old Ampeg BT 120 watt solid state bass amp that has been overheating. I found a disconnected wire that appears to solve the overheating....but i'm noticing that everywhere in the power amp that the schematic indicates ~40V, I'm measuring ~30V.

The owner had gone through and replaced all the electrolytic caps in the entire amp....about 20-25 total. But most where replaced with larger capacitance values....64uF replaced with 100uF, 120uF replaced with 220uF, 2500uF replaced with 3300uF.

My question is: would these higher cap values, some up to 75-80% higher than specified, effect the operating voltages? Thanks!

no i don't think so, what more likely is the problem are dropping resistors gone off value and are dropping more voltage. but all that matters is that you get the right tone out of the amp. if the tone is good with the voltages you measure, as long as nothing is overheating or anything, then it's good, otherwise, you may need to check some resistors or diodes to see if they're putting correct voltages through.
