  • Silvertone 1482

    Greetings!
I am looking to get a replacement power transformer for a Silvertone 1482. Has anyone out there purchased on recently? What manufacturer do you recommend and what values?
Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated!!!
    Thanks!

I've recently replaced the PT and OT in my modded 1482. Regretfully, I can't remember the model number for the PT. I recall that the information given at the Weber site regarding "bells" for the transformer was confusing, but the guys at Weber were very helpful. You will have to drill new mounting holes in the 1482 chassis, but you wont have to modify the cutout. For very little extra expense, you might as well replace the OT as well ....... W041318. ( 8 ohm out. ). You'll have to re-orientate the OT through 90 degrees though ( no big deal ) ...... something to do with not having both transformer windings running in the same direction ???

Or, you could replace with Mercury Magnetics transformers. More expensiver though !! The guys there are super-responsive and helpful.

Have you thrown the original speaker away ?

      Best of luck.

It sounds like GR1950 is the man with the plan.

          More PT talk

I appreciate the help with this amp folks!
I have checked out Mercury Magnetics for the PT and OT and the prices are quite high. They want $150 for the PT and $120 for the OT. I have investigated Weber, Heyboer and Allen amps and each one offers a "Deluxe-like" PT/OT but they all come with 5 volt windings that I do not need. I hate to come off like a snoot here but aren't the Webers made in China? I would like to use US made trannys if possible.
I found several PT/OTs at Edcor and I am leaning toward them. They do not have the extra winding and are much more reasonable in price. Do you have any opinion about them?

              Transformer part numbers

I examined my intact 1482 for part numbers and came up with the following information. The power transformer is stamped on the lower bell (on a side) with "P 14F". The output transformer is black inked with a "O 92F". I know there is little chance that somebody has this actual transformer kicking around their parts bin, but if you do, give me a shout!

Well, you just got lucky !!

I have a PT & an OT that I removed from one of my 1482's. Removed only because I wanted to fit a 230V transformer.

This was a working amp. before I bought it, BUT ...... I did not have it running.

If you have no luck Stateside, let me know. You are welcome to these.

P.S. A big box is sitting here, just delivered from the U.S. My 1481 that I'm going to meddle with !

                  Cheers,

                  Gary.

Edcor is excellent value:$ ratio, they stock ~115 PTs, I just figured out there were 3 pages on the WEB site... I made a searchable excel file of all of them (PM is you want it), most any flavor you would want and custom winds for <30% more (!)

I'd be very appreciative of that information please, if it's not a lot of trouble.

One of these days I'll replace the trannies in my original 1482, the PT with a 230V number. And my next project 1481 ( EL84 ) conversion will need replacement PT and OT also.

By the time MM transformers are shipped here, and the currency conversion made, they're one helluva price !

                        Ted,
is EDCOR Electronics Corporation their website? Do they build trannies upon your own specs?
I am dealing with a possibly mis-wound 1482 power tranny right now...
