  • boogie studio 22+ power transf substitute.

Hi Guys, I am repairing a studio 22 which has a short on the power tranny, this happened once before also. Does anyone know if I can use a fender transformer from a deluxe or blues Jr.and if they will fit ok? I was quoted an outrageous price for the Mesa transformer. Thanks

The Blues jr. PT is too weak. Less B+ voltage (BJ=329vdc, Studio22=392vac) and less power.
The DR transformer as well. Not enough heater current, since the EL84 draw more than a 6V6. The DR transformer has a heater wiring of 3A. (five 12A_7 and two EL84 are around 3A = I wouldn''t do that)
A Vibrolux PT might do. The Boogie schematic shows a secondary of 350vac. The Vibrolux PT has a secondary of 325vac. That's in reasonable range. It has an additional 5v winding for the rectifier tube that the Mesa lacks. Just tape up the wires (and fix them somewhere, of course).
They might be of different size and you need to drill new holes. Not everybody likes that.

Thanks so much, what you say makes sense, I will look into it.
Just wondering why you are called TxStrat if you live in Germany?

I just like the TONE of the MAN (SRV) and his Texas Strat.
