epiphone special

hi guys. i have a epiphone special, can anyone tell me the diffeance between this one and the standard? my scematic is quite blurry. this one has no output volume to speak of, just a small crackle when i hit the strings quite hard. ive changed mains caps and changed valves, no go. can anyone help?

Is that a Valve Special? Does it have an effects loop? If so, plug the guitar into the RETURN or PA IN jack and see what you get at the output. If it sounds good, look for the problem in the preamp circuit. It could also be bad loop jacks.

Have you measured the supply voltages?
