Capacitor codes?

Is there a site that will explain the codes on capacitors? I am specifically interested in finding out codes on asian made electrolytic caps. Thanks!

Although primarily dealing with electrolytics used in PC motherboard manufacture, many of the same manufacturers make caps of varying styles and sizes for use in other kit - I've certainly seen the same 'makes' in amps that I've seen in HP Compaq servers....

The main thing to know is unless otherwise noted by a decimal pout or some other symbol, cap values are often shown in picofarads - pf. SO when you see a number on a cap like 223 or 104, consider it like a resistor color code: value, value, multiplier. Multiplier is the same thing as number of zeroes.

So 223 means 2-2-000pf, 22,000pf, which is the same as .022uf. And a 104 would mean 1-0-0000, or 100,000pf, which is the same as .1uf.

You read my mind. I did come across some bulging asian electrolytic capacitors in a modern bass tube. I replaced them and the hum went away. I should have upped the capacity from 100 uf to 220 uf to give the amp more "guts".
