  • Problem With Volume Cutting Out On Ampeg Reverberocker (reissue)

I have an Ampeg 50 watt Reverberocket reissue. It's the 1x12 combo with EL34s in it. This problem started about a month ago where every so often the volume cuts out and then within the last couple of days it started doing it more frequently. Sometimes it will do it after I've had it on awhile but others it does it as soon as I turn it on. Sometimes it might not do it at all or there will be just a slight drop in volume. I've replaced all the tubes so I know it's not that. I checked the speaker and it's not that either. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be?

Based on my experience with recent Ampeg products I would bet on a cracked solder joint, possibly at the input jack or volume control.

If you go to the trouble of pulling the PCB I would retouch (adding fresh solder, not just re-heating) every control, switch, jack, tube socket, large and/or heat-producing components, and any other joint that looks a little marginal. Otherwise it will happen again somewhere else.

Another possibility is dirty normalling contacts in an effects return jack if that amp has an effects loop. Plugging a cord from the send directly into the return would bypass those.

And yet another possibility is loose-fitting tube socket contacts, where they don't grip the pin well.

    Good luck!

      Yeah,
Also does banging on the top of it with your fist as hard as you can bring back the sound...good indication of bad solder connections, too...really. you just can't be shy with these things. glen
