  • Marshall 2204 - new pots - doesn't work now

I just replaced all of the pots on my 2204. This amp has an effects loop mod. THe hot was wired to the Master Volume center lug, and the ground was left disconnected, so that is how I wired it to the new pot. I found what appears to be a 220k resistor wired across the pregain pot. I used a heat sink to remove it, and I checked with a VOM, but it has no resistance, or continuity. I don't see that resistor on the schematic.

I did not replace the resistor. I plugged the amp in, and now only the pregain pot works. THe amp sounds horrible, as if all the controls are all the way up. I checked the values of the pots, and they appear to be correct. I will tear it down and inspect my solder joints. What could be wrong, or how can I check it? ..and what about that 220k resistor? Thanks for your input.

OK. Sometimes it helps to write it down. Bad solder joints. Amp is working.
