  • regulated AC PSU

    Hi

    I bought a Marshall 9004 pre-amp a while back, without the PSU.
The Marshall manual is a bit stern about using only the Marshall PSU.
I emailed 'em and asked if any old 15 volt AC PSU would do and the reply was: 'You can use any 15 V AV PSU so long as it's regulated'.
Now, my learned colleagues tell me there's no such thing as a regulated AC PSU. Who is right?

    Thanks

    Bob

    Regulated AC PSU

I have seen regulated ac power supplies. Switch a MosFet on & off.
I don't think this is what Marshall is implying.
Of course some ac psu's put out more than what is stated on the label.
It depends how much they are loaded.
According to the schematic for the 9004, the first capacitors are rated at 25 volts.
So if you supply the unit with 15 volts ac, I would think you'd be good to go.
The 9004 converts the ac to +-12Vdc.

Regulated my ass. There's 78** regulators to regulate the DC. It doesn't care about teh AC input. Any AC wall wart that has the specified voltage and current capability will run it. Salesman.......
