    can this be done with a meter? I have an SVT 3 pro that has a bad ballast resistor.

    Usually when they go, they are dead shorts all pins. I suppose it's possible that the gate wouldn't be shorted but not in my somewhat limited experience. When they are good, you see the Drain to Source diode with an ohm meter's diode check function. The gate looks like an open circuit when you ohm them out of circuit so in circuit you see whatever the gate is connected to.

    When there are a bunch of MOSFETs in parallel, usually one shorts and saves the rest of them. Look for the one with the lowest Drain to Source resistance. The others will measure two source resistors if your meter can measure that low.
    WARNING! Musical Instrument amplifiers contain lethal voltages and can retain them even when unplugged. Refer service to qualified personnel.
