  • Heater pulsing normal?

Well my EL84 powered Crate VC50 seems to be working fine(no thanks to me lol!) however when I really crank it the heaters in the power tubes get brighter with the input such as hitting power chords. Never was able to view them before the cosmetic makeover but now they are in plain sight. Yes its kind of cool looking but Im wondering if its "normal".
Heres the amp now. Nice view of the tubes I never had before. Thanks Bob

    Cool looking cab.
    Pulsing heaters is not "normal".
I'm also skeptical that that's what you are really seeing for a variety of reasons. How about posting a picture of what you are calling the heater.
I hope it's not the plate going red. Are you by chance talking about a blue pulsing color inside the bottles?

I suspect he is seeing either the screens or possibly cathode. With surging current flow, those could glow brighter.

Thanks! I made that without a tablesaw-never again. Tung Oil is fabulous stuff too. No redplating, not the blue glow either.

Honestly never realised anything but the heaters actually glowed. Seeing as its inside heart of the tube thru the three holes in the sides of the plates you are ,(once again) probably right! I will most probably never run the amp that hard but as usual was curious.

Thanks guys. Its time to send this place some support money! Ive learned a lot here. Bob
