  • 5e3 volume interaction

Hi,I have built a 5e3 circuit style amp,and Im pretty sure it follows the original manufactures circuit specs.the problem is that when I am using the bright ch.and attempt to get the volume interaction with the other channel volume. It does little to effect the sound and when I get the volume on the normal ch.almost maximum it cuts out the entire signal! I know something is not right here.I am assuming this is some form of blocking distortion any discussion as to what I might have done wrong or maybe a clue for an area I need to recheck would be helpful. Thanks

The signal cutting out could be because of parasitic oscillation. Is your layout exactly correct? I'm not sure what you mean by "bright" channel. There should be an "instrument" channel and a "mic" channel AFAIK. Is there anything else the amp is, or is not doing?

It souds like you've connected at least one of the volume pots wrong, possibly both. Remember that 5e3 volume controls are wired "backwards" compared to regular volume controls.

Well, that could be confusing for a novice builder.
It's not that they are wired backwards, it is that the signal feeds the volume pot through the wiper and exits through the outside lug, which is connected right to the outside lug of the other volume control.
This lets the resistance of the pot... "above" the wipers... act like a mixing resistance.

thanks,I get the mic channel confused with a bright channel.I will check the layout closer in this area and post what I find.I think I will also tidy up some of my lead dress as well.thank you all for the insight
